Product Marketing Internship
Medisana GmbH Nov 2023 – Apr 2024 | Neuss, Germany
Wellness & Healthcare Devices – International Consumer Brand
Overview
At Medisana GmbH, a leading German wellness company producing consumer health electronics (e.g., massage devices, thermometers, humidifiers), I completed a 6-month full-time internship as a Product Marketing Manager, supporting the company’s first major US market launch.
This role exposed me to the intersection of product, marketing, and operations — helping ensure that a new product line met regulatory, messaging, and commercial readiness across global teams.
Company Context
Medisana is a well-established wellness brand with products sold across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Known for merging affordability and smart technology in health-related devices, they manage a diverse portfolio from blood pressure monitors to infrared massagers.
During my time, the company was:
- Expanding into the North American market.
- Launching updated devices with US-specific compliance.
- Coordinating with cross-border suppliers in China.
- Relying on performance platforms like Amazon for distribution.
My Objectives
As a Product Marketing Intern, my key responsibilities were:
- Support marketing & compliance work for a US product launch.
- Coordinate between internal teams and external (Chinese) suppliers.
- Research and position products effectively in Amazon/online retail.
- Help the marketing & design team communicate clearly across departments.
Key Contributions
1. US Market Launch Support
- Worked closely with product and legal teams to verify US power compatibility, safety regulations, and language compliance.
- Drafted and reviewed product messaging aligned with FDA/UL and FCC requirements.
- Ensured packaging and manuals matched US expectations for clarity, branding, and tone.
🟢 Impact: Enabled faster launch readiness by preventing misalignment between supplier specs and marketing deliverables.
2. Cross-Team Coordination
- Acted as a liaison between the marketing department, product team, and graphic designers
- Helped translate product briefs into concrete communication assets (manuals, flyers, A+ content)
- Scheduled and tracked deliverables across departments using Excel and Outlook project workflows
🟢 Impact: Smoothed interdepartmental operations and gave designers clear inputs earlier in the process.
3. Amazon & Competitive Research
- Analyzed competitor listings on Amazon.de, .com, and other EU marketplaces
- Created reports comparing:
- Titles, bullets, and enhanced brand content
- Pricing and reviews
- Plug/power standards across regions
- Recommended updates to optimize search relevance and feature visibility
🟢 Impact: Informed improvements to Medisana’s Amazon content strategy and clarified gaps in product messaging.
4. Documentation & Presentations
- Prepared marketing decks in PowerPoint to communicate launch progress and product positioning
- Built visual overviews of product advantages and differentiators
- Maintained data logs in Excel for regulatory milestones and supplier feedback
🟢 Impact: Created shareable updates that kept key teams aligned on launch timelines and positioning strategy.
What I Learned
Product Readiness Is Cross-Disciplinary
I learned how product management is a team sport — requiring inputs from engineering, marketing, compliance, and logistics.
Working Across Borders
Coordinating with Chinese suppliers helped me understand cultural and operational gaps that affect hardware product delivery.
Marketing Needs Clear Data
I discovered how competitive analysis and channel research (like Amazon) directly influence positioning and conversion rates.
Communication Is the Product
From legal disclaimers to button icons, I realized that every message is part of the product — and must be crafted with intent.
Tools I Used
- Microsoft Excel – supplier data, tracking sheets, timeline logging
- Microsoft PowerPoint – presentations, feature visualizations
- Outlook / SharePoint – coordination, version tracking
- Amazon / Helium 10 – competitive listing research
- Adobe Acrobat – product packaging and leaflet revisions
Reflections
At Medisana, I had my first hands-on experience shaping real-world products before they hit the market. I learned that product success isn’t just about features, it’s about timing, compliance, messaging, and operational clarity.
Working with international teams sharpened my ability to coordinate across time zones, departments, and cultures. It was my first taste of what it really means to be a product manager and it made me want more.
